These Air Fryer French Toast Sticks are a feel-good upgrade from the freezer aisle made with simple ingredients and Nellie’s Free Range Eggs. Those rich, golden yolks create a custardy coating that turns leftover bread into perfectly crisp, tender sticks in just minutes. It’s a wholesome option for busy mornings or weekend brunches with flavor and freshness you can feel good about serving. Dip, drizzle, and enjoy a breakfast that’s made with care not shortcuts.

Instructions

  1. Cut bread into log-stick shapes. If using sliced bread, cut into 4 thick sticks. If using a whole loaf, cut 1-inch thick slices first, then cut into 1-inch thick sticks.
  2. Crack eggs into a medium bowl. Add milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt. Beat until well combined.
  3. Preheat air fryer to 375° and line with parchment paper and spray with cooking spray.
  4. Dip each stick of bread into the egg mixture and roll it over to coat the entire thing. Let any extra coating drip off.
  5. Place the sticks directly into the air fryer until you have an even layer in the basket – approximately 8-10 sticks depending on the size of your basket. Do not overcrowd the basket or the sticks will steam and not get crispy. Cook in batches, if needed.
  6. Spray generously with cooking spray (this helps make them crispy) and cook for 4 minutes. Open the air fryer and flip the sticks to expose the bottom sides. Cook for an additional 3-5 minutes or until golden brown and slightly puffed.
  7. Serve with warmed maple syrup, whipped cream, and/or fresh fruit.
  8. For a decadent dessert-style twist: roll cooked sticks in cinnamon sugar just after removing from the air fryer.

Notes

Stale, dry bread works best! This is the perfect opportunity to use up any bread (brioche, challah, or otherwise!) that has overstayed it’s welcome in your kitchen. If you are using fresh bread, leave the slices out on the countertop overnight or lightly toast them in a low oven to dry out.
