Hold onto your tail feathers, because we've got some egg-citing news!
We're beyond happy to share that Nellie's Free Range has been recognized as one of the Best For The World B Corporations of 2022 for our exceptional impact on our community!
As a leader in the humane egg farming industry and a Certified B Corporation since 2013, we're so proud to be making a difference.
What is a B Corporation?
Started by the nonprofit B Lab, the B Corporation movement seeks to harness the power of business for good. While traditional corporations measure their success by the profits they earn for shareholders, B Corporations (B Corps) take a more multifaceted approach where people and the planet matter just as much as profitability. B Corps like Nellie's are committed to many stakeholders, from workers and suppliers (like our family-owned and run free range farms) to our customers, community, and environment. As a B Corps, we ensure that social responsibility, sustainability, and profitability are considered in every single decision we make.
B Corp Certification doesn't just evaluate a product or service; it assesses the overall social and environmental impact of the company that stands behind it. To achieve B Corp Certification, a company must meet a score of at least 80 points on the B Impact Assessment, an evaluation of a company's positive impact, and pass a risk review, an evaluation of a company's negative impact; change their corporate governance structure to be accountable to all stakeholders, not just shareholders; and exhibit transparency by allowing information about their B Corp Certification performance to be publicly available on their B Corp profile on B Lab's website.
What does it mean to be Best For The World?
Best For The World is a distinction granted by B Lab to Certified B Corps whose verified B Impact Scores in the five impact areas evaluated in the B Impact Assessment — community, customers, environment, governance, and workers — rank in the top 5% of all B Corps in their corresponding size group.
At Nellie's, we have been recognized for our efforts in the Community impact area. As all B Corps are already businesses that meet high standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose, this is a recognition that makes us incredibly proud! And we're just getting started: Nellie's will continue collaborating with the global B Corp community to improve and positively impact all our stakeholders.
What has Nellie's done to positively impact its community?
B Corps recognized for their exceptional commitment to community have mission-driven cultures that embrace supplier relations, social engagement, charitable giving, and strong, diverse communities—and Nellie's is no exception! Here are a few of the ways that we support and uplift our communities, from our free range farms to your fridge:
We partner with American farms owned and run by families.
Our farms aren't factories; they're real, small, American farms that are owned and run by families who share our high standards for animal welfare. In keeping with our values here at Nellie's, our relationships with these hard-working farmers are marked by kindness and care.
We prioritize happy hens.
Whether it's proudly displaying the Certified Humane Free Range seal on our egg cartons or voicing our support for positive changes in the egg industry, Nellie's has always put happy hens first.
We give back to our communities.
From our ongoing support of No Kid Hungry in the pursuit of ending childhood hunger to our frequent egg donations to local food banks, giving back to our local and national communities is paramount to operating our business.
We strive to do what's best for the environment.
Our egg cartons are made from 100% recycled plastic that comes from the most common plastics around: water bottles and soda bottles. By reusing materials that are already in circulation, we're diverting them from our oceans and landfills; giving them new life and making a decision that puts our planet first. And no matter where you live, our cartons can be recycled through our Carton Take Back Program.
Every year, Best for the World recognizes the top-performing B Corps creating the greatest positive impact through their businesses. More than a badge of honor, Best for the World provides an opportunity for recognized companies to share knowledge, learnings, and best practices with the B Corp community and businesses outside of the community to encourage innovation and transformation across the business sector.
