DIY Egg Carton Snowman

It's the little things that make the winter season magical. Between the holiday cheer, tall glasses of eggnog, and your coziest wool sweater, there are so many reasons to love this time of year. But whether you're a kid or a grown-up, we can all agree that the very best part of winter is the snow. There's something special about that soft white powder that blankets the trees and sidewalks, just begging to be frolicked in and rolled up into snowballs. And even if you live in a region where snow doesn't fall during these chilly months, you can still appreciate its beauty! Whether you're looking to get into the holiday spirit or trying to occupy your cooped up kiddos on a snowy afternoon, this snow themed craft will do the trick. Follow along to learn how to make your own egg carton snowman.

While your corner of the planet may be deep in winter hibernation, there's still so much life all around us. You can do something good for the planet and all its inhabitants by using 100% recycled Nellie's Free Range Egg cartons for this craft! To make an egg carton snowman, you'll also need some paint, mini buttons, pipe cleaners, and a few other items from the craft store. Once you've collected all the supplies below, you're ready to get started!

Supplies:

  • Nellie's Free Range Egg Carton
  • White paint
  • Paint brush
  • White or iridescent glitter
  • Mini pom poms
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Mini buttons
  • Black permanent marker
  • Hot glue (use only with parental supervision)
  • Paper straw
  • Scissors
  • Orange paper

Directions:

  • Cut out each egg cup from the carton and trim the edges. You will need 3 egg cups for each snowman.
  • Using a brush, paint 3 cavities. Depending on the paint quality, you may need more than one coat. After the final coat, sprinkle with glitter and let dry completely.
  • Poke a hole in two of the egg cups.
  • Cut a paper straw in half. Insert the straw through the holes of the two egg cups, then attach the third egg cup to the top of the straw using hot glue.
  • Add buttons to the bottom two egg cups.
  • Cut a small piece of pipe cleaner and attach to the snowman's head as shown in the photos using hot glue. This will be part of the earmuffs.
  • Using hot glue, attach the mini pompoms to complete the earmuffs.
  • Using orange paper, create a "carrot" nose and glue it to the snowman's face.
  • Draw eyes and mouth using a permanent black marker.
