This edible Thanksgiving arts and crafts project gets the whole family cooking and creating in the kitchen. Kids can roll out the dough and go to town on the decorations, while parents can help trace and cut out the the sugar cookie shaped hands. The end result: colorful hand turkeys decked out in icing feathers and sprinkles. They're almost too pretty gobble up (*almost*)!

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375F.
  2. In a stand mixer, mix sugar and butter on medium speed until smooth. Add eggs and continue to mix until evenly incorporated.
  3. While the mixer is running, add in cornstarch, salt, and vanilla extract and mix until evenly incorporated.
  4. With mixer set to medium-low to medium speed, add flour in 1/2 cup increments until dough begins to form and is firm to the touch.
  5. Place bowl in the refrigerator and cover with wax paper. Chill for about 30 minutes.
  6. Once dough is firm, dust a cutting board with flour and roll out the dough until it's 1/4 inch thick. Make sure your rolling pin is dusted with flour to prevent any sticking. Rolling out the dough is a great task for kids!
  7. Lightly, without pressing down too hard, place hand on dough and trace with a knife. If you have one, a fondant cutting tool works best. Parents can help!
  8. Separate cookie hand from the remaining cookie dough and place onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Repeat until all dough is used, then bake for 9-11 minutes.
  9. Use icing of your choice to decorate each finger as a "feather" for the turkey, draw eyes and feet, and decorate with sprinkles. Have fun and enjoy!
