Nellie's and No Kid Hungry® Tackle Childhood Hunger Together

Eggs are one of the most nutritious whole foods out there, which is why Nellie's Free Range is proud to announce our partnership with No Kid Hungry, a national campaign to end childhood hunger by helping provide every kid with the healthy food they need to thrive. That's one big undertaking for a small flock, but like all good things, our commitment to making food more accessible to kids starts with the best ingredients: love, kindness, and most importantly, action. Read on to learn more about No Kid Hungry's work and discover how you can join us in the fight to end childhood hunger.

What is No Kid Hungry®?

No child should go hungry in America. But in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, 1 in 6 kids could face hunger. No Kid Hungry is working to end childhood hunger by helping launch and improve programs that give all kids the healthy food they need to thrive. This is a problem they know how to solve. No Kid Hungry is a campaign of Share Our Strength, an organization committed to ending hunger and poverty.

What does No Kid Hungry® do?

Through a combination of emergency grants, strategic assistance, advocacy and awareness, No Kid Hungry is helping kids, families and communities get the resources they need. Here are just a few of the ways in which No Kid Hungry is ensuring every kid gets the healthy food they need:

School meals

Millions of kids rely on school for food; it's often the only food they might get on a given day. No Kid Hungry works with educators and lawmakers across the country to get the resources they need to feed kids – not just lunch, but breakfast and afterschool snacks too, giving kids their best chance to learn and grow without the stress of hunger.

Summer lunch programs

Summer is the hungriest time of the year for kids and teens who depend on free meals from school to keep their bellies full. When school is out for the season, No Kid Hungry steps in by helping community leaders run critical free summer lunch programs, providing healthy, no cost meals to those who need them the most.

Grants

No Kid Hungry distributes grants to communities to help them get what they need to feed kids, from meal carts to refrigerators to delivery trucks.

Advocacy and awareness

One of the ways that No Kid Hungry makes sure kids get the food they need every day is by being advocates for children – working with national, state and local elected leaders to strengthen policies and improve access to the nutrition programs that help feed kids. In recent years, they helped deliver an increase in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for working families, a "Pandemic EBT" program that provided emergency food benefits when school buildings closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, and so much more.

How are Nellie's and No Kid Hungry® teaming up?

So how do free range eggs fit into this equation? Well, they're one of the most nutritious whole foods out there, and high quality ones like Nellie's Free Range Eggs are essential for growing minds and bodies, fueling childhood fun, learning, and so much more.

Like No Kid Hungry, we believe that a multifaceted approach to tackling the widespread issue of childhood hunger will have the biggest impact. In 2022, Nellie's pledged a $150k donation to No Kid Hungry, which can help provide 1.5 million meals* to children facing food insecurity. In addition to this monetary donation, Nellie's delivers our products to community food banks on an ongoing basis, giving food insecure families direct access to nutritious, high quality free range staples.

*No Kid Hungry does not provide individual meals; your donations help support programs that feed kids. Learn more at NoKidHungry.org/OneDollar.

How can I make a difference?

Even a single dollar can make a difference in the fight to end childhood hunger. If you can, we encourage you to make a one-time or recurring donation to No Kid Hungry. Volunteering at your local food bank is another great way to provide direct aid to those living with hunger in your community. And at the grocery store, don't forget to reach for the purple carton or grab our grass-fed butter: you're not only choosing the best for your family, but you're also helping Nellie's and No Kid Hungry provide meals to millions of children.
