Cartons Full of Candy: A Sweet Halloween DIY

Halloween is the perfect holiday for crafting, especially when your craft doubles as a way to keep your sweet treats organized. After you finish making your Spooky Spiderweb Eggs, don’t toss that Nellie’s carton! With just a bit of felt, a glue gun, and some spooky accessories, you can give it an “afterlife” as the cutest candy dish on the block.  This easy DIY is kid-friendly (with a little adult help on the glue) and makes for the perfect upcycled centerpiece at parties, playdates, or post-trick-or-treating candy sorting.
What You’ll Need:

  • 1 empty Nellie’s Free Range egg carton (washed and dried)
  • Felt in Halloween colors
  • Hot glue gun (for adult use)
  • Googly eyes, pipe cleaners, pom-poms, or stickers for accents
  • Small bite-sized candies (candy corn, gummy worms, chocolates)

How to Make It

  1. Prep the Carton - Rinse and dry your Nellie’s carton completely.
  2. Choose a Spooky Theme - Will your carton become a creepy mummy, Frankenstein’s monster, a black cat, or a witchy masterpiece? Pick one overall theme or mix and match to create a whole haunted crew.
  3. Wrap it in Felt - Cut pieces of felt to fit around the carton and glue them in place to create a soft, colorful base that’s easy to decorate.
  4. Add the Frightful Fun - Bring your theme to life with accents like googly eyes, pipe cleaner arms, felt cutouts, or other fun add-ons. Think monster mouths, ghostly faces, or cat ears poking out from the top.
  5. Fill with Treats – Don’t forget the best part! Place a few candies in each egg cup. The built-in dividers keep everything neat and portion-sized.
  6. Show it Off - Set out your carton at a Halloween party or let kids use it to stash their trick-or-treat treasures.

Why We Love It

  • Family-friendly fun: A hands-on project that keeps little ones entertained.
