DIY farm themed party décor

Making your own décor is a budget-friendly way to completely customize your farm themed party. It's also a great opportunity to craft with the kids! Here are two ideas to get you started:

Balloon chandelier

I created a fun balloon chandelier to display over the kid's table, and the best part is that was extremely simple and inexpensive to create. It adds such a pretty and eye-catching detail to any party set up—from the farm and beyond!

Here's how to make your own balloon chandelier:

  • Blow up 20-30 balloons with air (not helium)
  • Attach a string to each balloon
  • Attach the other end of each string to a large wooden ring or hook
  • Hang the ring or hook from the ceiling and watch the balloons cascade down!

Farm themed tablescape

To bring the farm theme to life, I incorporated an adorable "on the farm" set of plates, cups, and napkins. I layered the small themed plates on top of large purple plates used as plate chargers for a pop of color. How cute is the barn paper plate? You can also use them as platters to serve party snacks.

For an easy and instant table centerpiece, be sure to visit your local floral shop for fresh blooms. Or, if it's spring or summertime, go free ranging with the kids and pick some wildflowers in your backyard. Display them in your favorite vase or the always-classic Mason jar and you're all set! I purchased the jar featured in this fun farm party at my local craft shop and quickly painted it to match my party décor.

Farm themed party snacks

Baking and decorating themed cookies is a fun way to get the kids excited, tie your party theme together, and use as table décor and party favors! To go along with the farm theme, I even created adorable brown hen cake bites inspired by Nellie herself!

Veggie quinoa bites recipe

Besides the sweet treats you will definitely serve at your party, it's nice to have something yummy and healthy for the kids. Nutrition is important! How about these veggie quinoa bites? You can make them in under 20 minutes with minimal prep, and they make the perfect finger foods for the kids (and parents). Use Certified Humane Free Range eggs for a final dish that's nutritious, flavorful, and delicious!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked quinoa
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 cups of cooked veggies of your choice
  • 2 Nellie's Free Range Eggs
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350F.
  • Spray a mini muffin pan with cooking spray.
  • In a deep bowl, mix all ingredients until well combined.
  • Divide the mixture evenly in the mini muffin pan. Make sure you press down to pack it in firmly.
  • Bake mini muffins for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Note: every oven is different. It took about 20 minutes for my quinoa bites to get brown and crispy. Enjoy!

DIY brown hen cake balls

You can make adorable hen cake balls to go perfectly with your farm theme! Using your favorite cake pop recipe, roll the cake mixture into mini balls and dip in melted chocolate mixed with thin coconut flakes. For the eyes, I used candy eyeballs you can find at your local craft shop or baking aisle at the supermarket. Don't forget to pick up some red heart sprinkles for the comb, white heart sprinkles for the feet, and large pearls for the nose. Then, use your Nellie's Free Range Egg carton to display your creations! It's a great way to reuse this earth-friendly packaging in a crafty way.

DIY pig cupcakes

Want to add another animal to your barnyard? Try dressing up homemade or store-bought cupcakes for the occasion! Using pink frosting, wafers, and marshmallows, you can create the cutest little piggie cupcakes for your party. The kids will fall in love with them. Time to dig in!

Farm themed party activities

Let the kids get inspired and create their own farm animal balloons by using templates or simply freehand drawing and cutting out colored craft paper in the shape of pig ears, donkey tails, hen beaks, and cow spots. Tape the cutouts onto the balloons and watch them come to life! Try taping black cow spots onto a white balloon, pink pig ears onto a pig balloon, etc. The sky's the limit!

farm-party-ig-6 The kids can also have fun with farm themed temporary tattoos and stickers! You can find these online, at your local party supply store, or at your favorite craft store. This is a great hands-on way for younger kids to learn more about farm animals and what they do.
